- Click a link. Links to other pages might be graphical images with colored borders or colored text (usually underlined). The mouse pointer changes to a hand when you move the mouse over a link.
Tip
- To open a link in a new browser window, press and hold down the mouse button, and then choose Open Link In New Window from the context menu.

The home page is the page that Internet Explorer displays when it is first opened.

Visiting a Web site
- Click and hold on the Go menu. The pages you viewed are at the bottom of the menu. You can go to a page by choosing it from the Go menu.
- To see more options, choose Open History from the Go menu.
- To visit a page in the history list, double-click it.
- To add a page in the history list to your favorites list, drag it to the Favorites window.
- To create an alias to a page in the history list, drag it to the desktop.
- To get address, date, and comment information about a page in the history list, select it, and then choose Get Info from the File menu.
- To add a page to the Favorites bar, drag and drop it from the history list to the Favorites bar.
Tips
- The icons to the left of each history item represent the type of protocol that item uses.

- Some pages will use their own fonts instead of the ones you specify. To prevent this, open the Preferences dialog box, and under Web Browser, click Web Content. Then, clear the Allow Page to Specify Fonts check box.

- On the Go menu, choose Open History.
- Make sure the History window is active by clicking it.
- On the File menu, choose Export. The history list will be exported as an HTML document.

Seeing where you've been
- On the File menu, choose Download File.
- Type the URL of the file you want to download.
- The location where the file will be downloaded is displayed in the Save Location area. If you want to change the location, click Change.
- Click Download.
The Download Manager will open and provide you with information about the status, size, and amount of data transferred. You can continue to visit Web pages while this file is downloading in the background.
Tip
- The Download Manager maintains a history of the files you have downloaded. This is useful when you can't remember if you have downloaded a file or where you downloaded it to. To check the location of a downloaded file, choose Download Manager from the File menu, and then double-click the file name.

- When you stop a file download, the file will still be listed in the Download Manager, but its status will be marked as "Cancelled."

- A green check mark beside a file indicates that the file was downloaded successfully. You can also review the information under Status.
- You can sort the information in the Download Manager by file name, status, time download, or the amount of information transferred. To sort, click the column heading at the top of the dialog box that matches your sort criteria.
- You can change the size of the columns in the Download Manager. To do so, position the mouse pointer over the cross-hatched pattern (notice that the pointer becomes a hand), click, and then drag the column.

- On the File menu, choose Open File, and then locate the file.

- In the page that contains the information you want to copy, select the information.
- To copy the entire contents of a page, choose Select All from the Edit menu.
- To copy part of a page only, select the text, and then choose Select All from the Edit menu.
- To copy information contained in a frame, click inside the frame, and then choose Select All from the Edit menu.
- On the Edit menu, choose Copy.
- In the document where you want the information to appear, click where you want to place it.
- On the Edit menu, choose Paste.

- You cannot copy information from one Internet page into another.

- Point to the link, press and hold down the mouse button, and then choose Download Link To Disk from the context menu.
- Type a name for the item.
- Select the location where you want the item saved.
- Click Save. Internet Explorer saves a copy of the page, not an alias to it.
Note
- If you want to add a link to your favorites list, instead of saving the page to your computer, press and hold down the mouse button over the link, and then choose Add Link To Favorites from the context menu.

- Type a name for the page.
- Specify the location where you want the page saved.
- On the Format menu, choose HTML Source to save the text and HTML tags, or choose Plain Text to save the text only.

Viewing the HTML source for a file in a frame
- Click inside the frame that contains the HTML source you want to view.
- Press and hold down the mouse button, and then choose View Source from the context menu.
You cannot edit a page that is on the Web, but you can save a copy of the page on your hard disk and edit that copy.
